The Garmin 735XT may be marketed as a triathlon specific GPS watch but in reality Garmin has produced something that’s closer to the ultimate smart watch for the active and adventurous. It’s got all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a flagship GPS watch with wrist-based heart rate monitor. It’s the details that set it apart.
Battery Life. It’s pretty phenomenal what this watch can achieve on just one charge. We’re talking on average ten days of daily GPS-enabled workouts of an hour or so, smart notifications and 24 hour fitness and heart rate tracking. Then, when the battery percentage is down into single digits, a sub two hour charge will bring it back up to 100%.
Smart Notifications. Coming from a Suunto, the notifications where always hit and miss. The Garmin 735XT just nails it. Any notifications set up on your iPhone will be mirrored here. Easy to find, easy to read…and easy to toggle ‘do not disturb’ when you want to disconnect.
Buttons. The 735XT forgoes a touchscreen for good old chunky, glove-friendly buttons.
Weight. For all the technology packed inside the 735XT, you’d be forgiven for expecting a bit of heft on your wrist. Don’t, this thing is featherweight, tipping the scales at a measly 40 grams (1.4 oz)
Strava Live Segments. Resistance is futile. Real-time Strava segment feedback ensures you’re always ready to chase down an elusive segment record or KOM.
With so many companies putting out so many good products, it comes down to the little things. With the XT735, Garmin have unleashed a GPS sports watch punching way above it’s weight.
